Location and function
The Department of Forest Inventory, Planning and Yield is attached to the Silviculture Research Institute. Its main function is in scientific research and the application of science and technology in the investigation, planning, and management of forests and in forestry.
Duties
- Basic research, including the experimental design, surveys, measurement and analysis, data processing in forestry research and forest ecology
- Modelling of forest growth and yield, including wood, biomass and carbon sequestration.
- Basic surveys and investigations for forestry, including forest resource assessment.
- Research into forest management and planning at all levels and scales.
- Research into and application of remote sensing and GIS technology in the investigation, planning and management of forest resources.
- Research into innovation in silviculture and management techniques (for tree species and forests), and the influence of climate change on growth and forest yields.
- Establishment of experiments, commercial plantations and natural forests.
- Development, consultation, design, evaluation and monitoring of the implementation of forest management plans.
- Providing training methods, training and technical expertise in the investigation, planning, and development of forest management plans.
- The Forestry Experimental Station in Phu Tho was established in 2013-2014.
