Location and function
The Department of Forest Phytodiversity is a part of the Silviculture Research Institute. Its primary functions are in scientific research on plant resources and biodiversity, and in performing tasks related to Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), particularly wild flora.
Duties
- Basic research including: plant taxonomy and classification, genetic diversity of populations and communities and forest plant surveys.
- Research into evolutionary processes and succession of plant communities.
- Theoretical and applied research into individual species and ecological communities.
- Development of research into new plant species with potentially valuable genetic resources and development of economic, social and environmental protection measures (including sustainable use).
- Evaluation of plant resources (populations, individuals, biodiversity) to propose solutions for conservation, development, and use of the species.
- Research into the impacts of human activities, invasive species and climate change on vegetation resources.
- Perform tasks related to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of endangered wild flora (CITES)
- Development, monitoring and implementation of projects on: biodiversity conservation, development and management of individual species and preservation of plant genetic diversity.
- Training, development of resources and expertise in management of forest plant resources.
