Location and function
The Department of Agroforestry is attached to the Silviculture Research Institute. Its main functions are in scientific research and application of science and technology for the development of agroforestry systems.
Duties
- Research into the silvicultural principles of agroforestry systems, and development of agroforestry models suitable for different ecological zones and different uses.
- Study the interactions between the components of agroforestry systems to create a stable production system with high performance.
- Research multi-purpose tree plantings, and research into growing biofuel crops using native and exotic trees.
- Research fertilizers, bio-products and techniques to improve productivity, quality and sustainability of agro-forestry systems.
- Research into development of systems and integrated farming models of forest agricultural crops and/or grazing on steep slopes (and other types of forestland), and economic, social and environmental outcomes (including sustainability).
- Propose solutions which combine technical information and policy to promote agroforestry, especially in areas prone to erosion, degradation and areas important for watershed protection, to build efficient and sustainable agroforestry ecosystems.
- Development, evaluation, monitoring and implementation of model agroforestry systems on sloping (and other) forest lands.
- Undertake extension work and training in technical aspects of agroforestry, and in presentation of model agroforestry systems.
